Coach's Corner

As parents and coaches we all want to see each of the children achieve as much as they can in the shortest possible time. It is very natural to to compare students with their friends, or with their brothers and sisters. We may sometimes wonder why some children pick up a skill right away while others take much longer to accomplish the same skill.

We feel that it is very important to recognize that each child is an individual and progresses at  her own rate. Children grow and mature at different rates and we encourage all of them to work hard and to give their best effort. If they do that the results will take care of themselves. Over the years we have seen many gymnasts start off slowly and then excel  after several years.  From personal experience Janine has developed her philosophy of encouraging all of her gymnasts to do their best.  If they do that then their hard work and dedication will always pay off.

We also stress the importance of form in doing gymnastics. We teach students that gymnastics is not only about being able to do certain skills but to concentrate on their form in performing all of their skills.  Sometimes it takes a while to learn certain difficult skills, and it's easy to become obsessed on just learning that particular skill. We want to make sure that gymnasts see the importance of working on their form so that when they do learn the skill that they are working on, they will really look good in performing all of their skills. This is equally important for competetive gymnasts as well as for cheerleaders.
